Quest might not be flexible to charge you those prices but it doesn't hurt to ask.ĭoctors have representatives/agents they personally work with in the labs that they use. Some labs have decreased prices for people without insurance. If that doesn't work, you can also ask what the lab tests would cost if you don't go through insurance. Insurances have contracts with labs so that is why they have negotiated prices. You might be able to negotiate them down in prices but that is not a guarantee. But honestly speaking, talking directly (by phone) to the billing department is a more efficient method. If you do just pay it off and then try to argue about reimbursement, you have to be okay with the very large chance of not receiving the money back.Įmailing is good in order to keep a thorough paper trail (make sure you have record of everything that you've communicated or that has been sent to you). Always call the labs, the doctor's office, insurance, etc to first determine what is going on. I used to work at a private medical practice and my advice to patients were to not pay the bill if they were uncertain. Just be aware that once you pay the bill, it will be extremely difficult to get reimbursed. I am home due to the COVID situation and have the time and energy to fight it. I am hoping this prevents the collections agency from putting this on my report. I am filing this complaint then if I get contacted by collections I am saying that I dispute that I owe the charge. I tried contacting quest a week ago and havent heard anything back other than my bill is being sent to collections. They then said they would request the documents from quest and then I never heard anything again. I advised them of this MONTHS ago and informed them of the correct doctor. They contacted the wrong doctors office for the records. They denied the claim, I contacted them via email to ask why, they said they requested records but never got them. I went back through all my documents and it is not really quest's fault, it is more the insurance companies fault. I am filing a complaint against the insurance company with the department and banking. I am a young adult and worked very hard to get my credit fixed and do not want it to be damaged but I also dont want to pay this to them since they have been horrible to work with if my credit is alrady going to be shot.ĮDIT: My real question now is if I pay this bill today, will it prevent this from being reported on my credit report or having to deal with a collections agency? It is currently NOT on my credit report and I have not been contacted by a collections agency, but the bill status says "collections." A week ago it did not say that status.Įdit 2: This is my plan moving forward. It looks like I can still pay it through them online but I dont want to pay them if it is already in collections. They never responded and sent my bill to collections at this point. I have tried emailing them and say that I will pay 80-100$ which is what they end up getting after my insurance company pays them. I am now basically on the hook with quest for 900. Couldnt get in touch with my doctors office although I contacted them multiple times. I Called my insurance company, the reason they didnt cover it was because my doctor never sent them my medical records they requested. Basically got a 900$ bill for them for some blood work 5 months ago because my insurance company didnt cover it.
